Writing 1610: My Journey of Self-Publishing a Novel

Updated: Jul 6

In my freshman year of college, I stumbled upon a remarkable piece of history that ignited my imagination and set me on a path of writing a book.

On June 10, 1610, Thomas West, one of Virginia's earliest governors, played a pivotal role in saving the Jamestown colony from collapse. The settlers had abandoned the fort, but West intercepted them on the water and turned them back, determined to ensure the colony's survival. West altered the course of history, potentially redirecting the colonization of North America away from other European powers like Spain or France.

Inspired by this captivating story, I grabbed a small stack of printer paper and began outlining a tale. Little did I know that this spark of inspiration would evolve into my debut novel, 1610, a work of historical fiction that blends adventure, romance, comedy, and the rich tapestry of Native American culture.

I owe a debt of gratitude to the incredibly supportive people in my life—my family, friends, and teachers—who believed in me and encouraged me every step of the way. A special mention goes to Mr. Thomas Robjent, my high school English teacher senior year, whose passion for literature ignited my own and laid the foundation for this novel. And of course, to my amazing father, Ron Klipp, whose unwavering support and expert editing skills were invaluable throughout the writing process.

I poured my heart and soul into crafting this book, and after countless hours of solitary work, I am overjoyed to finally share it with you. If you enjoy stories that transport you to another time, immerse you in adventure, and celebrate the complexities of history, I believe you'll find something special in 1610.

You can now purchase my book on Amazon for $17.99 (Hardcover), $7.99 (Paperback) or $2.99 (eBook). Embark on a journey through the early days of America's history.

Thank you all for your unwavering support and encouragement.

Warm regards,

John
